Every year around this time I notice people becoming more anxious. All kinds of anxieties.
Clouded Minds
Some people are all of a sudden feeling more lonely than at other times of the year; other people jump into “I’d better hurry otherwise this year is almost gone”… and they make all kinds of irrational decisions. I see people quitting jobs and ending relationships that have been normal but under some sort of “holiday, end of the year stress”.. people letting their minds get very clouded and as a result, they are making decisions that are not going to make them happy after that “holiday rush” passes.
This year, I see it even more than ever… In a different way than when we had COVID to deal with. During COVID more people felt helpless and hopeless and depressed, and they acted out of those feelings and emotions, but this year, people don’t feel those same emotions. This year is palpably different and almost as if it’s on steroids.
People’s brains are fogged by a somewhat of a superficial “everything is ok” mentality, but they feel more empty inside and also more desperate… You’d think, how much more desperate one can feel after COVID. But I see now that it is happening. This is a very scary situation and the sadness in this is that people don’t see it… they think they are in control and they are not… almost the opposite.
It’s Not Happening to Me So It’s Not Affecting Me…But It Is!
I must say that it’s not people’s fault… that those emotions are overwhelming people… look at everything that is happening in the world. Mass shootings, homelessness, women being prosecuted for abortions, the war in the Ukraine with hundreds of thousands of dead, the Hamas slaughter of October 7th, Israel leveling Gaza… Do you think it doesn’t affect us all because it’s “not in my home”… “in a country we don’t like “…. or in a country we think “deserves” all that? Guess what… this is what we think!!!! Only we think with our brains…. And our brains are not always taking us to the correct place… as proof, see how many irrational decisions people make when they are sick, tired, alone, sad… you name it…. Our brains of course affect us a lot…. But our emotions and feelings are more important because no matter what you think, you need to take into consideration that we, humans, are all connected and interconnected in so many ways and we feel. We feel the pain. We feel the pain of a mother who just lost a son. We feel the pain of a child who lost his dad. Or the pain of a father whose daughter was just raped and killed! We feel it!!! Just simply feel it… even if we cannot recognize it for what it is.
No matter who are you, the color of your skin, no matter if you are poor or rich… we all are connected. Our energy body is connected, but we are so ignorant sometimes that we think it’s us who rule the world… and we don’t… nature, energy, and everything else is affecting us and of course with everything that is happening in the world today, we feel bombarded and of course we feel desperate… Who would’ve thought 10-20 years ago that we would be having so many wars … Or that we would racially and religiously be clashing like crazy…
It’s all sad… All beyond sad but unfortunately, it is inescapable… and producing our inner devastation.
Holiday Spirit Comes Earlier Each Year
Interestingly enough governments in some countries are also realizing that this year, and I don’t know if you noticed or not, but everything that is or was related to the holidays has started earlier than usual… much earlier. So people would have at least some sort of holiday spirit going on for longer.
Well, smart of the agencies that do this… truly… because it allows them to at least keep people’s emotions from overflowing while stimulating the economy in a way… Well, I’m not a political person and I’m not going to write about politics but what I want you to do is to look at your life after reading this essay and ask yourself: “How have you felt for the last few weeks and why? What bothers you? What brings you calmness? or where do you need improvement in your life to become more happy and calmer?
Take A Break
I’d strongly recommend that you spend a few days without social media or overbrowsing the internet… spend full
“Cleanse” days and you’ll see the difference. No news, no reading in the restroom, no “browse before bedtime,” no watching soap operas looking at someone’s life… Focus on what’s happening inside of you and if you feel like crying -cry.
If you feel like smiling- smile. Be with yourself only and your family. It’ll help you to revisit your own goals and desires and view things differently, and it will allow you to see things clearly. It’s worth it!
Trust me. You’ll feel like you break free from this “Holiday fever.”
The world is a mess and it impacts us all. But if we can see what is happening and its subtle impact on each of us then we can wrap ourselves up in a sort of protection simply by acknowledging the outside influences rather than simply letting them affect us.
